In the aftermath of the last war, Humanity unleashed all manner of horrors upon itself. Atomic, Chemical, Biological. Unknown pathogens are spreading across the global, wiping out what few people remain. Whilst scavenging, you have found an ancient piece of bio-engineering technology from the before-times. 

The machine promises the capability to rewrite the foundations of life, to produce novel compounds that can do anything from make simple bacteria glow, fix attention spans, or de-activate ancient bio-weapons - if you can figure out how to use it.

You have no knowledge on how to use this tool, just some dusty old notes used god-knows how many years ago by the original owners. They are long gone, it's up to you to figure out how the machine works, and save humanity from itself.

BiOS is a Zachtronics TIS-100/Shenzhen IO (but mostly TIS-100, Shenzhen I/O was for the datasheets) inspired assembly-programming puzzle game, made for and entirely during the Knockout 2026 Game Jam. It consists of an executable for running the game, and a PDF containing the documentation that is required to solve the tasks.

It is a deductive pattern-matching game themed around protein folding. Each test consists of four sub-tests, three of which are visible to you. You have to identify the patterns between the EXT variables and the required outcome, and then create a single assembly program capable of generating all of them. Then you will be tested on the final, hidden subtest to see if you managed to understand the patterns correctly. There are 12 puzzles included in this version of the game - it starts quite easy but difficulty ramps up, I will be very impressed if you can beat them all!

As a result of the rushed jam timeframe, there are a few quality-of-life features that are missing, i.e. the ability to save your scripts. If you don't want to lose your B-ASM, then make sure to copy it elsewhere!
